Interested in becoming a traveling IT installer? An IT Installer, or Low Voltage Technician, is someone who helps franchises by installing low voltage wiring for phones, Wi-Fi, TVs, computers, security cameras and music systems.
There are many benefits to becoming an IT Installer, particularly job security as most businesses outsource IT installation. The added benefit of becoming a Traveling IT Installer is being paid to travel the country! At Wired, our installers have been everywhere from Florida to Colorado to California. In fact, in the last couple months they have traveled to San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Denver, and San Antonio. One thing is for sure; there is no typical day for a traveling IT installer.
Meet Mike, one of our traveling installers. We asked Mike a few questions about his job to give you an insider perspective of what it’s like to be a Traveling IT Installer for Wired National.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a traveling installer for Wired?
A: The best part is the work environment and the fact that I get to travel the United States. Also my knowledge of technology advances on a daily basis, which is nice for career growth.
Q: Can you elaborate on the work environment?
A: It’s an amazing environment to be in. Everyone is always joking around and excited to be helping others.
Q: How has Wired helped you grow both professionally and personally?
A: Wired has helped me grow professionally and personally 100%. I have had 3 years of growth with this company and I’ve learned a lot. And I’ve built many new friendships through the years.
Q: What is your favorite experience so far?
A: Perfecting how to network computers in a business environment is my favorite learning experience so far.
Q: What do you think sets Wired National apart from other IT support opportunities?
A: Wired is a growing company with a lot of room for growth. Also everyone is always learning and teaching each other about new products and practices we may introduce as a company, or that are already out in the field that we may come by. It’s always a team effort.
Q: Being a traveling installer is a little different. What exactly does a typical day look like for you?
A: The majority of the time we’re out of state. Usually from 8am to 9am the team and I are getting to the job site and getting set up. After we’re set up we discuss what the client wants and what we need to do. From 9 am to 4pm we’re either prepping or installing. That ranges anywhere from pulling wire to installing TVs, speakers, and computers. 4pm to 5pm we clean up and go back to the hotel. After that we spend the evening in whatever city we’re staying in.
