New Year’s Resolutions Every Business Owner Should Consider

As we close the books on 2018 and look brightly into 2019, every business owner and operations director should consider some new year’s resolutions for their business.  A new calendar year is a great time to review systems in place and set goals. 

1.     Be Generous and Be Smart. Get separate guest wifi and ensure the entire wifi network is secure, firewalls are functioning, and the system is routinely monitored.  Don’t rely on crappy routers from Walmart and your cousin’s friend to ensure cyber security (unless he’s Bill Gates).  Make 100% sure you are protecting your company’s data.

3.     Balance Work and Family Life. 4.     Listen and Learn.  Do a sound audit of your business.  Take 10 minutes to listen to the noise of your business, and review the customer experience with music and background noise. Determine if you need to upgrade your background music, upgrade your speaker system, or install white noise or sound masking for enhanced privacy. 

Bonus tip: Consider a digital screen for marketing messages and to remind guests to “like”, “check-in” and leave a review on social media.

5.     Build Systems. Continue to build systems in your business so you can operate as efficiently as possible.  Make them easy to replicate, so as staff changes you keep the system functioning and the customer experience doesn’t change.  Provide a great customer service experience so you are doing the best in every location, in every interaction, every single day.  Then keep improving the systems.  This isn’t a new year’s resolution for a business owner, this is a mantra for success.  Improve the systems and the business will succeed.
